Mindful Movement (Gyrokenesis) - Autumn Term

Visual of the course

Description

An easy dance movement class for people of mixed abilities. We welcome those who have taken dance classes before, as well as complete beginners.

This course is taught in a safe, supportive environment and is suitable for adults of all ages and physical fitness levels.

Learners are encouraged to develop greater awareness of muscular and mental tension, building a more connected understanding of how to engage the body for fluid, expressive movement.

Learners start with simple dance movements, which are gradually built up to improve posture, balance, overall fitness, and stamina. The course also explores harmonising movement and breath, supporting a more creative, liberating, and graceful way of moving.

More information
Gyrokinesis is a gentle movement method that combines elements of dance, yoga, Tai Chi, and mindful exercise to improve flexibility, posture, coordination, and overall wellbeing. Often described as "yoga for dancers," the practice uses flowing sequences, rhythmic breathing, and seated and standing movements to support mobility and strength. Closely linked to modern dance techniques, Gyrokinesis is suitable for adults of all abilities who are looking to improve movement, balance, and body awareness in a supportive and relaxing environment.
